Summer Air Conditioner Settings

Summer Air Conditioner Settings

When the intense summer heat falls over Phoenix and the surrounding areas, many households get caught up in arguments over the air conditioning settings. We are here to settle this dispute! The disagreements are not just about comfort, they are about the cost too! The question is: What is the best temperature to set your air conditioner during hot Arizona summer days?

We all love coming home to an icy blast of AC on a day when you feel like you’re melting, but it is rarely worth it when you look at your electricity bill. In the summertime, the closer your home is to the temperature outside, the better. For each degree you set your thermostat above 72 degrees, you can save up to 3% on your utility bill. That’s right–the wrong thermostat setting may be costing you money.

So how do you get a lower electricity bill, in the summer, in Phoenix, without sacrificing your comfort? Try gradually raising the temperature on your thermostat one degree at a time, and then let your body get accustomed to the change. Chances are you’ll be able to raise the temperature at least a few degrees without any noticeable discomfort. If you can, set your goal at 78 degrees: this is still cool enough to be a welcome relief from the summer heat, but it won’t overwork your air conditioning. Without a doubt, you’ll thank us once you get the electricity bill. Curious about other money-saving tips to keep you cool in the summer? Check out our blog!

A lot of what you have read involves changing the temperature on your thermostat throughout the day. If you have a manual thermostat, though, it may sound and start feeling like a full-time job. One solution is to install a smart or programmable thermostat. You can create settings which will automatically raise or lower the temperature at certain times of day, such as while you’re at work or while you’re asleep. Doing it this way, your house will be the perfect temperature when you get there. You can learn more about different types of A/C systems and learn which is right for your home in our blog post! We hope these tips will help you use your thermostat wisely, no matter the season. Remember: comfort is key, but it does not have to come at the expense of your utility bill!

A nice guy came out and and fixed my thermostat, which unfortunately I paid a handyman to install. Nothing was wrong with my heater, he did advise I need a coil tune up real soon.
